DYSTOPIAN TRAINING…and other writing updates

Hi! It’s been awhile since my last post, so I want to catch you up on all the wild writing news, and tell you about…DYSTOPIAN TRAINING! Many of you know that I moved from Washington, D.C. to Seattle a year ago. It’s been a whirlwind of ups and downs in the last year. I was running a lot in Seattle, since the weather never really gets too cold in winter or too hot in summer. Perfect for running. I ran my first 5K in 8 years as the Seattle rain poured down on me. But then…duh duh duh…in April I broke my foot while carrying my daughter and tripping on a sidewalk at the library. Literally,...

Go to a Museum: Author Tiffani Angus’ Writing Advice

Tiffani Angus is another writer friend whose short story, "The Final Voyage of the World's Oldest Time Traveler" is in the Athena's Daughters V 2 anthology with me.  Here's the link again to the presale of that book: Silence in the Library In Tiffani's own words below she talks about her story and her advice for all writers:  "Go to a museum!" ***** As a creative writing teacher at university and a graduate of writing workshops, I've had several years of both giving and taking writing advice, from small nitpicky things (such as 'avoid adverbs') to bigger stuff (such as 'finish everything...

ELECTED is still doing pretty well.  Not making the AMAZON top 100 lists for YA like it did on its release day, but it's still selling.  It's now the first thing that pops up on Amazon when you type in "elected", which is awesome.  The rankings on Amazon fluctuate a lot.  Sometimes it's pretty good at say 50K, and sometimes its bad - like today around...

The sordid part of the tale began a few weeks ago when all of the authors at my original publisher, Entranced, received an email that the company was being sold to a new owner.  We were thrown but quickly became energized, listing questions for the new owner and waiting with baited-breath for more information.  ...
