Latest Writing News/Updates

Hi!  I thought it was about time for another update on how ELECTED is doing and to tell you what other writing stuff I'm up to.  And within this post there's an opportunity for teenagers to get a free copy of ELECTED!  Read below to see how. ELECTED is still doing pretty well.  Not making the AMAZON top 100 lists for YA like it did on its release day, but it's still selling.  It's now the first thing that pops up on Amazon when you type in "elected", which is awesome.  The rankings on Amazon fluctuate a lot.  Sometimes it's pretty good at say 50K, and sometimes its bad - like today around...

What Makes a Hero? (ELECTED Book Giveaway!)

What Makes a Hero? (ELECTED Book Giveaway!)

(SEE BOTTOM OF POST FOR EASY WAY TO WIN AN EBOOK OF ELECTED!) Heroes come in all forms.  The nerdy outcast wizard who saves all muggles from he-who-won't-be-named.  A boy bitten by a spider whose guilt over his uncle's death leads him into a world of crime-fighting.  Or even a starving teenage girl who volunteers for the Hunger Games in place of her sister. There's no set stereotype for what a hero looks like or what he/she sacrifices to be given such a label.  The only thing that's common is a unique bravery. That's one of the reasons I love Silence in the Library's latest kickstarter...

And to All My Bloggers…

And to All My Bloggers…

A BIG THANK YOU! Below is the list of the amazing 54 bloggers who posted about ELECTED during its Kickstarter campaign.  As an update, ELECTED's kickstarter ends tonight after a month in the limelight.  Within these four weeks, we not only hit the initial funding goal to print hardcover books (which totally blew my socks off), but we also hit 3 stretch goals.  And...at the time I'm writing this posting, we're only $13 away from hitting the 4th one.  Just 9 more hours to hit that one, and I think we'll do it!  So now all backers will receive ELECTED plus 3-4 free books! These bloggers...

Hard to Launch a Book and Continue Writing at the Same Time!

Yep, it is.  I always wondered why JK Rowlings wrote a bunch of her books and then took a long time writing the next one after the first few books in her series took off.  It's cause launching books and promoting them takes up so much time, and it never feels like you're doing enough.  You could always be writing one more guest post or talking to one more fan. I'm finding this to be the case personally.  Lately, every time I sit down to write a couple more pages in my third Elected novel, I end up spending all that alloted time on twitter, Facebook, promoting the blog tour for the first...

WOW! THANK YOU!

WOW! THANK YOU!

ELECTED released today on AMAZON in ebook version and KICKSTARTER for the hardcover and printed copies, and I am absolutely floored by the response.  I promised I would keep you all up-to-date on how the book is doing and give you the ins and outs of publishing as I went through it. So far:  on AMAZON the book is ranking really well.  I can't see the sales yet because those have a few day delay, but by the ranking of 20K (which moved from 1,000,000 when the book first released) I can tell that sales are good.  The goal for today is to get ELECTED into the top 100, so we still have time!!!...

Latest ELECTED Publishing News

Here's the run down on how people will be able to get the ELECTED book and all the cool things going on with publishing in the last couple of weeks. 1) A kickstarter will run April 15th through the end of May.  There you'll be able to get a signed paperback or hardcover, and each of those purchases comes with a free digital copy of ELECTED.  The kickstarter is a way to pre-order printed copies and ones that are signed.  There won't be any other place to get the hardcover for a very long time, esp one that's signed.  Plus…at the different kickstarter backer levels, people can get cool...

The Crazy, Sordid, Messed-up, Terrible, Absolutely Wonderful Week

The Crazy, Sordid, Messed-up, Terrible, Absolutely Wonderful Week

Last week was one of the best and worst timespans in respect to publishing ELECTED.  It's literally been a roller coaster of ups and downs.  There's so much to explain, but let me start by saying that the story has a happy ending.  A positively, absolutely wonderful pinnacle. The sordid part of the tale began a few weeks ago when all of the authors at my original publisher, Entranced, received an email that the company was being sold to a new owner.  We were thrown but quickly became energized, listing questions for the new owner and waiting with baited-breath for more information.  ...

Books I’m Devouring – The whole Lunar Chronicles Series

Books I’m Devouring – The whole Lunar Chronicles Series

If you like the Once Upon a Time tv show, you will love The Lunar Chronicles! These are the latest novels I've been devouring--a four-book series by Marissa Meyer.  I've sped through the first three:  Cinder, Scarlett, and Cress.  The next and final book in the series, Winter, isn't set for release until 2015, and it's not out for pre-sale yet.  But if it were, I'd have already saved a copy onto my kindle to read as soon as it came out. What I like about each of these books is that the story is a twisted version of a fairy tale:  Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White,...

Hemlock Theme for Book Launch Party

Hemlock Theme for Book Launch Party

My friends know that I love throwing parties, especially ones with themes.  So for the ELECTED book launch party, I've delved deep into the theme of hemlock.  Hemlock is the plant and liquid that Socrates' government forced him to drink  to kill himself when he wouldn't denounce his scientific theories. In ELECTED, there are four strict Eco-Accords designed by world leaders to bring Earth back from environmental extinction.  One of the Accords states that no technology shall be used or created.  If people violate the accord, they are forced to drink hemlock as the futuristic "capital punishment".  ...

Book Release: Infinite Potential by Barbara Garren

Book Release: Infinite Potential by Barbara Garren

I'm excited to be part of the book release blitz for Infinite Potential by Barbara Garren.  I haven't read the book yet, but the back cover blurb sounds enticing: Kelsi always knows when bad things are coming, but even she never thought she’d lose her husband at only twenty-three. Since he died, she’s been living her worst nightmare. Her nights are filled with dreams of a Dark Haired Man, but her days are full of guilt, because the Man fills her with longing and confusion, promising to give her all she needs, all she wants, all she feared she’d never have again. If only the dreams...
