Athena’s Daughters Tour – “Observations on Writing by the Old Crone”

Athena’s Daughters Tour – “Observations on Writing by the Old Crone”

As part of the Athena's Daughters Volume 2 Blog Tour, I have the opportunity today to showcase one of my fellow authors from the book, Tish Eggleston Pahl. In the below message she tells us how she uses every moment, every daily interaction to influence her writing. Her specific story in Athena's Daughters V2 is called Crow Bait and Switch.  Now that I've heard her inspiration/where she got the idea, I can't wait to read the story! Also, just so you know, she picked the title of this blog post!  I am not calling Tish an Old Crone!!!  :) Link to the Athena's Daughters V2 Pre-sale with all the fun pre-sale...

Athena’s Daughters Volume 2: Promoting Women in Sci-fi

Athena’s Daughters Volume 2: Promoting Women in Sci-fi

I blinked once and within the same year that ELECTED came out, I'm involved in a second book that's being published.  This next novel, ATHENA'S DAUGHTERS VOLUME 2, is an anthology of sci-fi short stories, all written by women and with women as the main characters.  The purpose of the book is to promote women in the dominantly male sci-fi genre.  All of the people involved in the book are women - from the writers to the editors to the illustrator. My story in the anthology is called "The Pendant".  It's a prequel to ELECTED, told from Aloy's mom's point of view. Ever want to know if Aloy's...

Baltimore Book Festival

Baltimore Book Festival

I have yet to give you a full account of speaking and signing at the Baltimore Book Festival this past September.  I got involved with the event after signing at DC's Awesomecon in April 2014.  So it goes to show that the cons and other book signing events are great for networking. The Baltimore Book Festival was three days long, and as I flew in from Seattle for the event, I only stayed for two days so I could see friends from back home and attend a baby shower the third day I was in town.  At the book festival I did a short reading of Elected, participated in a science fiction fans/authors...

Megan O’Russell Writing Advice: No arranged marriages in writing!

Megan O’Russell Writing Advice: No arranged marriages in writing!

Author Megan O'Russell is one of my sister-writers (meaning she's published through the same house as me:  Silence in the Library Publishing).  I'm proud to have her on my blog today, talking about her writing advice and how she went through the writing process with her young adult fantasy The Tethering.  What I like best is the way she describes outlining like it's an arranged marriage.  I love outlining before I write, but I can totally see Megan's point and why people may not want to do it.  Check out her reasoning below!   Writing Advice From Megan: Most of the advice...

The Cover Reveal of SUSPECTED

The Cover Reveal of SUSPECTED

I'm so excited to finally reveal the cover of SUSPECTED, the second book in The Elected Series! And then let's look at it side-to-side with the first book, ELECTED... Want to know the secrets that SUSPECTED's cover reveals?  First look at the two symbols at the top of the book covers.  Elected's symbol looks like some type of bubble, right?  When Elected released a lot of people asked me why Aloy's face was in a bubble, and what that bubble was.  Well, it's not exactly a bubble.  It's a medallion.  A bauble on a necklace. On Suspected's cover there's a diamond.  You don't get to find...

Latest News on ELECTED – Could it be a Bestseller?

Latest News on ELECTED – Could it be a Bestseller?

Friends and readers, I wanted to give you the latest news on ELECTED and some other life news that just occurred.  My family has been contemplating a move to Seattle for a few years now, and as of this month it's finally happening.  It feels so strange to say goodbye to the Washington, D.C. area after living here for 18 years.  But it's also exciting to think about living in a new place.  I can't wait to meet all the lovely readers in the Seattle area and join up with that area's writing societies. As for ELECTED, the best news is that it has sold about 1265 copies over the last two and a half...

Book Contests, Free Stuff, and Winners

This post is packed with fun info about book freebies! First off, the winner of the my blog post on heroes was Mary Preston.  For commenting on the post, she won an ebook of ELECTED.  The Silence in the Library Publishing Kickstarter for the anthology of hero short stories is still going on, but there are only hours left.  At this point, so many stretch goals have been reached that anyone who pays $5 gets not only the anthology but also a bunch of other free books and short stories (at least 5 more, I think!)  One of those is Vincent Morrone's paranormal romance, Vision of Shadows, which...

Author Tawnya Brock’s Writing Advice: “Put your back into it!”

Author Tawnya Brock’s Writing Advice: “Put your back into it!”

I have the pleasure tonight of introducing YA Author Tawnya Brock onto the blog.  She was gracious enough to sit down with me and give us her writing tip of the day "Put your back into it!" as part of the fast five questions series. 1.  What do you write? I write Young Adult paranormal and contemporary. Romance, of course. I can’t write a story without some kind of romance. I blame it on Nora Efron.  2. What prompted you to start writing novels? I’ve always known I would write stories. Like, always. When I was very young I made up whole stories in my head and memorized them...
