Hop Against Homophobia

Friday May 17th is International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.  In honor, authors, publishers, and book reviewers who include gay and lesbian themes in their works are coming together to write blog posts about the topic of acceptance.  The Hop Against Homophobia and Transphobia (HAHAT) was created last year to spread awareness of homophobia and transphobia, and to stand together as a writer community against discrimination.  The official hop site is:  http://hopagainsthomophobia.blogspot.com/. On this site you can link to other blog postings on the subject.  The best part is that to be part of HAHAT, all author blog posts need to give something away (a book, prize, swag, etc.)  So check them all out and win cool stuff!

I’m giving away a free query letter review!  I’ll look at the query letter you intend to send agents and publishers, and I’ll give you edits and comments back within a week.  I’ll randomly pick one winner from all comments I receive on this post or from any messages I receive on twitter.  My twitter handle is @RoriShayWrites

I have a  dystopian sci-fi book, ELECTED, coming out in April 2014 that includes a love triange.  Unlike usual young adult love trianges with two men fighting over a girl, ELECTED has a girl and boy both vying for a girl.  Thus, there is an element of lesbianism included. One of the reasons I included such a theme in ELECTED was to show what the world might think of tolerance and homosexuality hundreds of years in the future.  I think the United States is on the cusp of a civil rights movement with homosexuality.  We’ve gone through women’s rights, African American rights, and now is the time for gay rights.  Thus, I think a futuristic world would look past the intolerances that many people hold today.  No one would mind who loves who.  However, my book is also about a world ruined by the effects of global warming and widespread population loss.  (aka dystopia!)  It’s a world that highly encourages reproduction for population growth.  So I wanted to explore what frustrations are created because of those conflicts of interest.

Please feel free to look at my entire website www.rorishay.com and let me know what you think of ELECTED.  If you’d like, let me know your email address and I’ll let you know the date ELECTED is released in April 2014!
