ELECTED Out of Line Edits

As I’ve promised, I’m trying to be as transparent as possible about the process of getting ELECTED ready for publication.  That way friends who are reading my blog get to hear the inside scoop, and aspiring authors can hopefully get something out of my experiences.  And since I’m a debut author and everything along the way is new for me, I can tell it to you as I’m learning.

Thus, here’s the latest on ELECTED:  The last stage of editorial is finished!  The manuscript is now out of developmental and line edits.  It’s making it’s way through the galley phase this month.  That’s where the publisher puts the novel into a format ready for the different online store venues (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.).

As soon as Entranced Publishing’s done with the galley, I check it over one more time with a fine-tooth comb.  Then the manuscript is sent in ARC (advanced reader copy) format to reviewers and bloggers, and it also goes up online for pre-sale.  Not sure the date for that, but I will keep everyone posted.

In the meantime, I’m getting promotions lined up.  Exciting news is that Hugh Howey, the bestselling author of the WOOL series agreed to Facebook and tweet about ELECTED when it’s released!  I’ve said this before, but fellow writers are so collaborative and giving!  Maybe you assume that there’s a lot of competition between writers, but from what I’ve seen, that’s untrue.  Perhaps there’s little competition between writers because we don’t feel like we’re specifically competing against each other.  If a reader likes another writer’s book in the same style/genre, us writers think maybe that reader would like our book too.  Good writing promotes more reading and more interest in books, increasing market share of the entire industry.  (I heard that TWILIGHT actually got people back into reading.  Whatever your views on the book itself, that piece of info is good for everyone, and I applaud Stephanie Meyer for making such a difference in the industry.)

Regarding promotions, there’s a sign-up if you’re interested in helping me get the word out about ELECTED.  That includes blogging about the book, facebooking, tweeting, emailing friends, etc when the book releases April 22, 2014.  This means telling people the book is releasing, talking it up, and getting your friends excited about ELECTED.  If you sign up, my publicist, Suzanne van Rooyen, from Entranced will email you info on ELECTED in a few months so you can use that material when you help publicize the release.  I could use all the help spreading the word as possible.  I’m thinking of everyone who helps with ELECTED as “East Countrymen”!  (You’ll get the reference when you read the book!)

Thanks everyone for your help and for your interest in the novel.
